Green Valley is a concrete industrial and territorial ecology initiative deployed in the Epinal-Golbey area of the Vosges, the heartland of French industry. It revolves around one of Europe’s largest paper mills, Norske Skog Golbey (600,000 tonnes of newsprint – 400 employees). The initiative arose from the joint desire of the region and the paper manufacturer to revitalize the local economy, and in particular the declining stationery market. The project involved close collaboration between several complementary manufacturers in the wood and construction sectors, a competitiveness cluster and local authorities.

The Golbey site offers several advantages:

  • Its scale: the industrial site offers strong pooling capabilities (infrastructures, services and flows),
  • Its location: the area is situated at the heart of Europe’s economic “banana”,
  • The proximity of economic, institutional and academic partners (Competitiveness Cluster, Engineering School and Universities, Grand Est research organization).
