UMR Silva brings together staff from AgroParisTech, INRAE, and the University of Lorraine to carry out multidisciplinary research on wood, trees and forest ecosystems. It resulted from the merger in January 2018 of the “Écologie et Écophysiologie Forestières” [EEF] and “Laboratoire d’Étude des Ressources Forêt Bois” [LERFoB] Joint Research Units. Its aim is to develop fundamental and applied research in response to questions raised by society, and forest managers in particular, on the adaptation of forest ecosystems to global change and the services they provide, such as wood production and their contribution to climate change mitigation.
For over 10 years, UMR Silva has been researching the recoverable biomolecule resources of knots and bark, in close collaboration with the Laboratoire d’études et de recherche sur le matériau bois (LERMAB) and the Institut national de l’information géographique et forestière (IGN).
The ExtraForest project has led to the production of databases and modeling/simulation tools
