Project context
FURALOR: Elaboration of composite wood from beech by in situ polymerization of monomers derived from wood waste
Goals
Funded by the ADEME, the FURALOR project aims to set up a production chain for high-durability wood composites from beech wood, by in situ polymerization of furan monomers in a similar way to what has been developed and industrialized in northern European countries from softwoods.
These furanic monomers will either be obtained directly from commercial sources (Asian origin from agricultural waste), or manufactured locally from hardwood sawing waste.
The latter is the most appropriate solution for the development of fully integrated short supply chains, in line with a commitment to sustainable development in both environmental and social terms.
Outcomes – Expected Impacts
Development of alternatives to exotic woods and promotion of local hardwood species.
A new range of beech wood treatments based on biosourced molecules
