The wood waste primarily targeted by this ADEME study includes end-of-life wood or wood waste collected separately or mixed, produced by households or businesses in mainland France. The study also considers the fate of these flows, including exports, such as:

  • construction and building waste,
  • public works waste,
  • packaging waste that does not benefit from a “waste status exit,”
  • furniture element waste.

The study provided an overview of the quantities and organization of the wood waste sector in France. Of the 8.6 million tonnes of wood waste produced each year in France, 7.4 million tonnes from all sources are collected by public waste management services and private companies.

About 80% of the collected resource is recovered as energy (2.5 Mt) and through recycling (3 Mt).
